Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
Allah will make the path to the Jannah easy for anyone who travels a path in search of knowledge. [Muslim]
Seeking sacred knowledge, in some capacity, is mandatory upon every believer and is a great source for blessings in one’s life and a means for success in the akhirah. Many individuals feel a yearning to seek knowledge of the Deen but unfortunately often find themselves either seeking knowledge of the wrong type or in the wrong places. In the worst cases, sacred knowledge is sought for worldly reasons. Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and give him peace, said about such a person:
Anyone who learns knowledge which should be learned for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, only to obtain by it goods of this world, will not experience the scent of the Jannah on the Day of Qiyamah. [Abu Dawud]
So how do we figure out where to begin our journey? Where do we go? Who do we learn from? What do we learn first? … and most importantly, how do we protect ourselves from learning that which is harmful for our akhirah or learning sacred knowledge with incorrect intentions? Find out by attending this brief workshop. Learn about the virtues and methods of seeking sacred knowledge in light of Qur’anic principles.
