Course Description

This unique course will explore the history and development of Usul al-Fiqh and Usul al-Hadith in the early to late Hanafi school, a subject often ignored and grossly misunderstood.

This course will respond to the charges of the Hanafi school being bereft of Usul al-Hadith, and seek to establish the reality of the matter. Along with discussions on the history and development of both Usul al-Hadith and Usul al-Fiqh in the Hanafi school, students will also learn about the primary Hanafi scholars and source books in this field from the past to the present.  Students will be provided a number of discussions on some of the salient principles and features of usul and mustalah al-hadith.
